Kobe and Yokohama join the Wilhelmsen Ships Service Liferaft Exchange Service networkMarch 24, 2010 - Two locations in Japan have been added to Wilhelmsen Ships Service's worldwide network of liferaft stations that offer the company's Liferaft Exchange Programme (LRE). The approved liferaft service stations in Kobe and Yokohama have joined the international network which offers a popular dockside exchange service ensuring that in-date liferafts are always carried on board ship, eliminating delays caused by servicing.
The two Japanese locations joined the programme on 15 February 2010, bringing the total number of Wilhelmsen Ships Service's liferaft exchange stations worldwide to 35.
The opening of local life-raft service stations in Japan will provide an exchange service for Wilhelmsen Ships Service's network customers and is in response to localised customer requests.
Junichi Saito, the Japan General Manager for Wilhelmsen Ships Service, stressed the importance of the opening. "The local life-raft market is not able to offer the added value of international exchanges that we are able to offer through our worldwide network," he said, adding, "We have so far signed LRE agreement for 88 ships with five local customers."
"In addition to the local market, we appreciate that we are now part of the global liferaft offer," continued Junichi. "There have been a large number of liferaft exchange enquiries coming from the network to the newly appointed LRE coordinators in Kobe and Yokohama."
