 Wilhelmsen Ships Service opens Stavanger officeMay 4, 2010 - In a move to strengthen the company's presence in the Stavanger port area of Norway, the world's leading maritime service network, Wilhelmsen Ships Service, has established a branch office in Stavanger. As well as reinforcing network coverage in the region the new office will focus especially on service provision to customers in the offshore sector.
The new office in Stavanger was opened on 1 April 2010. Prior to that operations were successfully handled by a service provider, but both parties agree that a further positive development will require a new and fresh organisation in order to strengthen the development of the business potentials ahead.
Stavanger is Norway's fourth largest city, located on the south west coast, and is home to 115,000 inhabitants. Oil service companies dominate the town and the industry employs more than 30,000 people. In addition to the oil activities, tourism is a growing business and more than 100 cruise vessels are expected to visit the Stavanger port area this year.
"By establishing a branch office in Stavanger, Wilhelmsen Ships Service will gain a foothold in this important offshore area," comments Christer Bonde, Area Director Scandinavia. "This fits well into the two strategies of strengthening the offer to the customers operating in the North Sea and to international customers in general." He adds "The establishment of the new office will also increase additional business activities in the Stavanger area."
Helge Brown has been appointed as Operations Manager Stavanger and is responsible for managing the site. He is joined by Stian Knutsen, who will look after the port and account sales, and Stian Johannessen who will be Warehouse Supervisor. In addition there will still be close cooperation with the former service provider.
Wilhelmsen Ships Service has ambitious expectations for its new team in Stavanger, and is confident that it will provide a first-class service to all its existing and future customers in the area.
