 Wilhelmsen Ships Service appoints new General Manager in KuwaitJuly 13, 2010 - The world's leading maritime service network Wilhelmsen Ships Service has appointed Russell Dinwoodie as General Manager for the company's operations in Kuwait.
Russell's focus will be on maintaining the leading market share in ships agency that the company has in the region and growing its latest projects, the globally standardised Ships Agency Redefined and Ships Spares Logistics initiatives. He will also be responsible for developing product sales, which include the company's Unitor brand of products, to vessel operators and owners in Kuwait.
Kuwait holds 10% of the world's oil reserves and 8% of worldwide oil production. It is also a significant shipping hub for Iraq supplies and equipment. Russell Dinwoodie comments, "With major infrastructure and investment programmes worth US$104 billion underway, this is a highly important area for Wilhelmsen Ships Service as the country's development positively impacts on shipping and logistics requirements." He adds, "It is important for us to further develop the offer in maritime logistics services that support the regional logistics service provision, for example providing logistic shipping solutions for major contractors and oil companies into Iraq via Kuwait."
Wilhelmsen Ships Service in Kuwait also works closely together with its Saudi Arabia office, for example to provide ships agency and product solutions to companies operating in the neutral zone between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
Russell has held various management positions in the transport sector working in the Middle East, South Africa and Canada, and joined Wilhelmsen Ships Service's Maritime Logistics department in 2008, working in Saudi Arabia. He brings to the Kuwait office his considerable experience from working in the region.
