"Time for growth is now" says Area Director on opening of Mumbai safety centre Wilhelmsen Ships Service (WSS) has announced the opening of a new ISO-approved safety service station in India.
With the addition of this station - one of the most technically advanced in the country- WSS has established a stronghold in regions where the efficient management of port calls and safety inspections is vital. Nakul Malhotra, Area Director - Subcontinent, East & South Africa for WSS said:
“Indian ports are currently handling over 90% of foreign trade of our country. We have significantly increased our presence over the past five years and future plans – of which the opening of the new station is a key milestone - are highly anticipated.”
The station is equipped to service a wide range of safety products including fire fighting equipment, lifejackets, survival suits and breathing apparatus as well as cylinder hydro testing, painting and certifying.
According to Safety Business Director Andrew Sheriff, the new station is a ‘strategically important’ addition to WSS’s folio of over 100 globally ISO approved Safety service stations. He said:
“We have worked closely with other leading service stations in the WSS network to ensure quality standards are met. This new station allows us to take a significant step forward in offering the entire range of our products and services across the region.”
WSS now operates 15 offices across India from its head office in Mumbai, covering a vast 7,500km Indian coastline, with 12 major and 181 intermediate ports, of which 139 are operable. Situated in Taloja on the outskirts of Mumbai city, the new facility will service the busy ports of Nhava Sheva (JNPT) and Mumbai as well offering inspection and onboard services to all ports on the east and west coasts of the sub-continent. The Subcontinent, East & South Africa area itself has 32 WSS offices, employing more than 500 people and servicing approximately 6,000 port calls per year.
